You’re awake. Instead of writing the Great American Novel—or even a mediocre one—you’re reading our blog. Okay, then. We offer a topic; you respond. Let your fellow writers inspire you, and return to that manuscript refreshed.

Question: Who was the first professional writer you ever met?

  1. Naomi Hawkins-Rowe

John Archambault, of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom fame. He lives, or at least lived in Idyllwild, CA where I grew up.

  2. Hmm. It was probably the dad of a childhood friend, a journalist by the name of Bruce Nolan who worked for most, if not all, of his career at the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, La. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many other writers over my lifetime, thanks to author visits at schools, libraries and book stores, reading festivals and my own career as a journalist. Some favorites: Gary Paulson, John Green and Anna Dewdney. I have signed books from each of them.
