You finally have a moment to write, but what to do with your limited time? Here’s a practical prompt to kickstart the story you’re working on right now. The clock is ticking, people. Start writing.

Beverly Cleary once said that she read her manuscripts aloud before they were published. In honor of Cleary’s birthday on April 12, read your manuscript out loud, or have someone read it aloud to you. Listen carefully. Does every sentence sound the way you intended? Did the reader stumble over words or phrases? Take the opportunity to fix what you didn’t like.
