Practical Prompt 03-13-14

You finally have a moment to write, but what to do with your limited time? Here’s a practical prompt to kickstart the story you’re working on right now. The clock is ticking, people. Start writing.

PROMPT: Look at the next scene you want to write for your story. What is the essential reason for the scene’s existence? What absolutely must happen in order for the story to proceed? If nothing, delete the scene. Otherwise, once you’ve identified the essential ingredients, brainstorm seven alternate ways that essential element can unfold in the plot. Are any of the alternate ways more interesting than the way you originally designed the scene?
